As the first public university in Central China’s Henan Province to carry out Sino-foreign joint undergraduate programs, Zhengzhou University of Light Industry (ZZULI) has launched Sino-foreign joint programs at different levels with world-class universities since 2001. Partner universities include the University of Wollongong in Australia, Edinburgh Napier University in the UK, Griffith University in Australia, the University of Camerino in Italy, and Fontys University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. ZZULI offers more than ten majors covering Internet Science and Technology, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering, Data Science and Big Data, Accounting, International Business, e-Commerce, Product Design, Environmental Design, Digital Media Art, Food Science and Engineering and Software Engineering, across liberal arts, sciences, engineering, economics & management, and art. Up to now, the university has achieved great success.
ZZULI International Education College manages Sino-foreign joint education programs. By internalizing foreign advanced educational concepts, expanding the fields of joint education, and strengthening the formal connotation of international education, the College has generated a student development model featuring “English + major”. The model, based on the needs of practicality and internationality, implemented a curriculum system in the frameworIn addition, the “International Joint Laboratory of Food Safety” co-established by our school and Edinburgh Napier University is approved as the “Henan International Joint Laboratory of Food Safety”. Likewise, the “International Joint Laboratory of Big Data Analysis Technology” co-established by our school and Griffith University is k of “English + major”, striving to develop future scholars with a global vision and professional qualities. In addition to giving lectures to students in joint programs, the teachers of partner universities joined us in teaching seminars, academic seminars, and cultural activities. Leveraging the educational and teaching resources of ZZULI and partner universities, the program has established student-oriented art design studios, joint Internet-based laboratories, and Big Data Labs to encourage students to participate in exchange and international group programs to broaden their “big vision”.
So far, 123 Chinese and 110 international students have received full-ride scholarships to study at each other’s universities. Nearly 1,000 students studied in foreign universities through joint programs and successfully obtained degrees, and were accepted to graduate programs of world-renowned universities, including Imperial College London, the University of Manchester, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow, the University of Warwick, the University of Birmingham, the University of Bristol, the University of Sheffield, the University of Southampton, the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, Monash University, the University of New South Wales, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Since the founding of International Education College, its students have won many prizes in international and domestic competitions: the fourth place in the world in the competition for the “iF Design Award” known as the “Design Oscar”, the first prize in the software group of colleges and universities in the China Mobile Internet Innovation Contest, the second prize in the national final of the 2nd Competition of NGI Technology Innovation, and the first prize in the China National College Student “Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship” Challenge.
In addition, the “International Joint Laboratory of Food Safety” co-established by our school and Edinburgh Napier University is approved as the “Henan International Joint Laboratory of Food Safety”. Likewise, the “International Joint Laboratory of Big Data Analysis Technology” co-established by our school and Griffith University is approved as the “Henan International Joint Laboratory of Big Data Analysis Technology”. Leveraging the resource advantages of cooperative education, we have established an overseas training mechanism for teachers, through which nearly 100 teachers in Sino-foreign joint programs have studied abroad. This effort has promoted international academic exchanges and cooperation and improved teachers’ skills on a global level.
