I. An Introduction
Marxist Theory
Marxist theory is a subject that studies the basic principles and scientific system of Marxism as a whole, including the history of its formation and development, its acceptance around the world, particularly the sinicized Marxist theory and practice as well as how to apply research findings to Marxist theoretical education, ideological and political education and work. Under the subject Marxist theory there are three training orientations, that is, Marxist theoretical education, study of the sinicization of Marxism, and ideological and political education in the Department of Ideology and Politics. The educational goal is to cultivate, through systematic learning and practice of theoretical and basic knowledge, the students into high-quality talents who are morally, intellectually, and physically well-developed with high political quality, correct theoretical orientation and higher Marxist theoretical foundations, who are able to put Marxist theories into realities.
II Course Description
Theory and Practice of Ideological and Political Education
Instructor: Lu Xiangxin
Based on Marxist theories and the principles of ideological and political education, this course mainly focuses on the theoretical basis, functions and essential scope of ideological and political education as well as contradictions and structure appeared in the process in order to illustrate the basic law and to inquire into objects, goals and contents of ideological and political education. At the same, it gives introduction to the development history of ideological and political education of the Communist Party of China and her theories and practices at different historical stages. In addition, there are seminars on the new research findings in modern ideological and political education, based on the social practice and the students’ ideological realities.
Seminar on Marxism Basic Principles
Instructor: Ma Ruili
This course, based on Marxism’s classic works and basic principles, describes Marxist world outlook, epistemology, value outlook, historical concept and Marxist labor value, social structure of capitalism, and the development and historical position of capitalism. It also gives an introduction to the sinicization of Marxism, combing with the history of Marxism.
Seminar on the Political Science
Instructor: Wang Tianxiao
Following the form and functioning law of public power, this course is to equip the students with relevant theories so that they can accurately understand the inherent logic of political operation and its development tendency by teaching them the general knowledge and theories of techniques and methods, political science, political nature, political system, political behaviors, political consciousness, and political development.
Critique of Social Thoughts in Contemporary Western Philosophy
Instructor: Yang Ruiyong
This course is to study and analyze the principal social thoughts that are popular in the West and have an important impact on the world by introducing the representative figures and their thoughts. Meanwhile, the course guides the students to critical acceptance of the reasonable thoughts using the method that logics and history are consistent.
Seminar on Ethics
Instructor: Yang Xiao
With the basic principles of ethics as the starting point, this course focuses on main types of ethical norm and their essential scopes, such as justice, goodness, virtuousness, moral emotions, and other meta ethics. With the analysis of the basic concepts and their structures related to ethical issues, in-depth studies are made on the basic scopes together with case studies.
Marxism and Social Sciences Methodology
Instructor: Zhang Zhen
Basing on Marxist social science methodology with methodology and ideological and political theory as characters, this course for the undergraduates systematically elaborates fundamental contents of Marxist methodology and its guiding significance, especially the Chinese Marxists’ standpoint, view, and method. Meanwhile, the course focuses on the connection between theory and practice and highlights problems awareness to enhance its contents, pertinence and effectiveness.
Selected Readings in Marxist Classics
Instructor: Zhao Changtai
Basing on Marxism basic principles, this course analyses some representative works on Marxism formation and development to discover the author’s writing backgrounds and his or her academic thinking. In addition, the course analyzes Marxist original works’ structure and interprets selected chapters to show their modern significance and academic values.
Introduction to Nature Dialectics

This course is for the undergraduates to study the cognitive process, method, and the law of cognitive development in natural science by using Marxist epistemology and methodology in order to cultivate the students with dialectical materialism as well as innovative spirit and ability.
On the Evolution History of Marxism
Instructor: Lin Shixuan
This course focuses on the whole history of Marxism from historical aspect combining theory with practice, especially paying more attention to the history of Chinese Marxism, to cultivate the students with strong belief in Marxism and correct direction for theoretical research.
Theory and Practice of Socialist Economics
Instructor: Li Yanhua
Basing on theory systems such as socialist ownership, market economy and distribution according to work, this course is to have a comprehensive study of socialist economic theory and its practice in China in the method of lecture, seminar and field trip. Through systematic investigations in the process of China's reform and opening up, the students gain a full view of China's economic reform and enhance their analytical ability.
Research on Socialist Theory and Practice with Chinese Characteristic
Instructor: Huang Tianhong
This course, basing on the analysis of socialist theory with Chinese characteristics, focuses on the China’s reform process of socialism, highlighting the solutions to the social problems. It includes: the historical background from which socialism with Chinese characteristics emerged and its theoretical basis and theoretical characteristics, related theories and practices ranging from economy, politics to culture, and socialism construction, ecological civilization construction and so on.
Seminar on Modern and Contemporary History of China
Instructor: Huang Tianhong
Basing on Marxist historical materialism, the course is to conduct case studies on significant historical events in modern China and on new changes after the establishment of the Communist Party of China. This course illustrates historical evolution of China by discussing topics such as politics, economy, military affairs, intellectual thinking, society, culture and education, and foreign relations.
Seminar on Social Development Problems
Instructor: Li Guicheng
Basing on sociological theories, this course for the undergraduates theorizes social problems appeared in the social development in order to deepen the understanding of laws of human’s development. Meanwhile, it illustrates Marxist laws of human’s development, with special focus on such social problems as structure differentiation, urbanization, and changes in human behaviors and values in the process of modernization to deepen the understanding of phenomena in social development and its laws.
