Introduction to the Master Degree in College of Food and Bioengineering
Food Science and Engineering (083200)
Food science and engineering is Key Discipline of Henan Province (Level 1), with positions for Henan Province Distinguished Professor. The major was approved for Master’s degree in Food Science in 2000 and Master’s degree in Food Science and Engineering (Level 1) in 2008. The research works in this major focus on food development, food security, food nutrient, tobacco processing, fragrance etc. Currently there are 12 on-going research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 4 projects funded by National 863 Project, 4 major projects from China Tobacco Bureau, 48 projects supported by Henan Province Distinguished Research Funding, Distinguished Youth Funding, Key Projects and other sources. In the research projects, totally 28 books and more than 400 research papers have been published, of which more than 80 papers have been indexed by SCI and EI. More than 60 research results have been rewarded, including National Second Prize and Provincial/Ministerial Second Prize. Tens of millions of economic profits have been produced.
Biochemical Engineering (081703)
Biochemical Engineering was authorized for Master’s degree in 2006 and started its first recruitment for graduate student in 2007. The research directions include biomedicine engineering, bioengineering technology and fermentation engineering, microbial genetic engineering, biocatalyst and enzyme engineering. Totally 6 professors and 15 doctors are working in this major. Based on the research platform of School of Food and Biology Engineering, many research projects have been funded by National Natural Science Funding of China, Henan Province Distinguished Researcher, Distinguished Youth Funding, Henan Province Key Research Project, etc.
Fermentation Engineering (082203)
This major is Key Discipline of Henan Province (Level 1), with positions for Henan Province Distinguished Professor. The undergraduate recruitment started in 1989, which was the first one in Henan Province. In 2002, the group has been authorized for Master’s degree on Fermentation Engineering, which was the first one in Henan Province as well. Currently, the research directions in this major include: wine engineering, biological pharmacy, microorganism breeding, biological catalysis and conversion, biosafety inspection, biofuel, etc. Totally 9 professors and 21 doctors are working in this major. To the current time, we have recruited graduate students for more than 8 years. With the support of this major, Zhengzhou Key Laboratory of Biocatalysis and Bioconversion and Zhengzhou Research Center on Food Technology and Engineering have been established at our university.
Light Industry Technology and Engineering (Professional Major) (085221)
As one of Key Disciplines of Henan Province and with the positions for Henan Province Distinguished Professor, Light Industry Technology and Engineering has been authorized for Master’s degree in 2012. Fermentation Engineering, one of its majors of level 2, has started undergraduate recruiting in 1989. The research directions in this major include: tobacco processing technology, industrial fermentation technology, biotechnology in food science, bio-detection technology, etc. The faculties working in this projects include 13 professors and 28 doctors. Till today, we have recruited graduates for 3 years. In this major, we have established research platform for food processing including supercritical CO2 extractor and molecular distillation and platform for bio-detection technology with real-time fluorescent PCR, Agilent 2100 bioanalyzer. Based on the support from the major, Henan Province Research Center on Tobacco Fragrances Technology and Engineering, Zhengzhou Key Laboratory on Biocatalysis and Bioconversion and Zhengzhou Research Center of Food Processing have been established.
Food Engineering (Professional Degree) (085231)
Relying on Major of Food Science and Engineering, Food Engineering (Professional Degree) is Key Disciplines of Henan Province (Level 1), with positions for Henan Province Distinguished Professor. The research directions of this major mainly include: Manipulation of Fruits and Vegetables, Food Nutrients and Health, Chemistry and Processing Technology of Polysaccharides, Tobacco Chemistry and Fragrances, Technology and Theory of Tobacco Processing, Tobacco Biotechnology, Food Quality and Safety, Quick Frozen Food, Meat Processing, Vegetal Protein Engineering, etc. The major has been approved for funding support from National Natural Science Funding of China, National 864 Projects, Henan Distinguished Researchers, and Distinguished Youth Funding. The faculties have worked as the Principle Investigators in several key research projects from National Tobacco Bureau. The researchers in the major have published more than 100 research papers annually, among which more than 30 have been indexed by SCI and EI. More than 20 research achievements have been rewarded including Provincial/Ministerial Second Prizes. Tens of millions of profits have been created.
