College of Mathematics and Information Science 

The School of Mathematics and Information Science was formerly known as the Mathematics Teaching and Research Department established in 1978, which was successively affiliated to the Basic Department and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Science of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry. In June 2002, the Department of Information and Computing Science was established, and in July 2013, it was renamed as the School of Mathematics and Information Science. It has established teaching and research institutions such as the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, the Department of Information and Computing Science, College Mathematics Teaching Department 1, College Mathematics Teaching Department 2, the Mathematical Modeling Innovation Center, the Applied Mathematics Center, and the Mathematical Experiment Center. The school has 1 master's degree in Information and Computing science, and 2 undergraduate majors in Mathematics and applied Mathematics and Information and Computing Science. The Information and Computational Sciences program began enrollment in 2000, and the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program in 2005. At present, there are nearly 450 undergraduates and postgraduates in the school.

The college has more than 70 staff members, including about 50% of teachers with senior titles and 35 teachers with doctoral degrees. Among them, there are 1 provincial outstanding youth, 2 provincial famous teachers, 5 middle-aged backbone teachers, 3 provincial academic technology leaders, 9 teachers with other honorary titles above the provincial level, over 10 teachers with overseas experience, and 26 master supervisors. The school has always implemented the education concept of educating people, and actively carried out many activities like lectures about teacher's ethics, lectures about morality, volunteer service, etc.

The school has one university-level key discipline (Applied Mathematics), one second-level master's degree program (Information and Computational science), and enlists professional degree candidates in three fields of electronic information (control engineering, artificial intelligence, big data technology and engineering). Two undergraduate majors (Mathematics and applied Mathematics, Information and Computing Science) are first-class undergraduate major construction points in Henan Province, with 13 provincial level courses such as national first-class courses.

The school has 1 university-level research center (Applied Mathematics Center) and 2 university-level innovative science and technology teams (partial differential equations and integrable systems, numerical calculation of nonlinear systems). In recent years, the college has presided over 20 projects of NationalNatural Sciences Foundation of China, 1outstanding youth project of Henan Province, over 40 provincial and departmental projects, and won nearly 20 provincial and departmental scientific research awards. In addition, it has published more than 200 academic papers in international authoritative journals such as SIAM J Math. Anal., JDE, and more than 100 of them have been included by SCI and EI, and won the Top 10 Highest Citation Award of the internationally renowned journal J. Math. Anal. Appl..

The college focuses on cultivating mathematical talents with good ideological and moral character, solid professional foundation, outstanding practical ability and innovative spirit. In recent years, students have won more than 200 awards in discipline competitions such as mathematical Contest in Modeling, mathematical Contest and innovation and entrepreneurship competitions such as  The Challenge Cup and Internet +. Many students have been to foreign universities for exchange study or to study for master's and doctoral degrees.

The school pays more attention to expanding exchanges at home and abroad, regularly inviting domestic and foreign experts and scholars for academic exchanges. What’s more, a number of teachers go to the United States, Canada and other countries for academic visit, and a variety of students go to foreign universities to study and exchange.

Looking ahead, there is a long way to go. The school will continue to uphold the school motto of easy if done, difficult if not done, further promote the school style of rigorous and pragmatic, pioneering and forging ahead, work hard and innovate more, strive for greater achievements in personnel training, scientific research and other aspects, and make greater contributions to economic and social development.  

Information and Computing Science

The Information and Computing Science program was established in 1999 and began to enroll students in 2000. In 2009, it was rated as a university-level characteristic major. In 2014, relying on this major, it was approved to independently set up a second-level master's degree in information and computing science. In 2020, it was approved as a first-class undergraduate professional construction point in Henan Province.

The major aims to cultivate all-round development of moral, intellectual, physical, and labor, with good mathematical foundation and mathematical thinking ability, master the basic theories, methods and skills of information and computational Mathematics, have the basic quality of information technology and computer technology, have strong learning ability and practical ability, and have a sense of innovation. High-quality applied talents engaged in research, teaching, application development and management in science and technology, education, information industry, economic and financial sectors. The basic school duration is 4 years, and the Bachelor of Science degree is awarded.

Core courses: Mathematical Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Analytic Geometry, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, Ordinary Differential Equations, Programming Techniques, Data Structure, Mathematical Modeling, Numerical Analysis, etc.

Mathematics and Applied Mathematics

The department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics was established in 2004 and began enrollment students in 2005. In 2004, the discipline of applied Mathematics was approved as a key discipline at the university level. In 2020, the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics was approved as the excellent grass-roots teaching organization construction point in Henan Province. And in 2021, it was approved as the first-class undergraduate professional construction point in Henan Province.

The major emphasizes the foundation of Mathematics and statistics, attaches great importance to the teaching of multidisciplinary knowledge such as computer science, economics, big data theory and application, and cultivates high-quality applied talents who are engaged in research, teaching, statistical modeling, big data analysis and software application development in the fields of Mathematics, statistics and big data application.
