History: This major was established in 2005 and began to recruit students in 2006. It is the main supporting major of Social Development Research Center, which is a key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences in Henan Province. In recent years, we have closely followed the historical opportunity of the development of “new liberal arts”, constantly updated the educational concept, comprehensively optimized the curriculum system, strengthened the construction of curriculum and teaching resources, reformed classroom teaching, strengthened the cultivation of innovation and entrepreneurship ability, and continuously deepened the reform of professional teaching, with remarkable results. We ranked first in professional evaluation of Henan Province in 2018.

Professional Orientation: Under the guidance of the construction concept of “new liberal arts”, and according to the demand for public management talents in the “modernization of national governance system and governance capacity”, we focus on the direction of “urban public affairs management”, base on Henan province, focus on the central region and face the whole country, cultivate high-quality applied talents who have a solid basic theory of economic management, accurately grasp the development law of regionalization and urbanization, master modern urban management theory, technology and methods, and can engage in management and service in government organs, enterprises and institutions and social organizations.

Faculty: There are 16 full-time teachers, all of whom have master’s degrees or above, including 12 doctors, accounting for 75%. There are 5 honorary titles such as excellent young social science experts in Henan Province, academic and technical leaders of Henan Provincial Department of Education, scientific and technological innovation talents in Colleges and Universities in Henan Province and young backbone teachers in Colleges and Universities in Henan Province. The teaching team has undertaken 4 national social science fund projects, 2 national natural science fund projects and 2 humanities and social science projects of the ministry of education in recent five years. All kinds of scientific research received more than 3 million yuan, won 8 scientific research awards above the department level, and published more than 80 academic papers, of which more than 20 were included in CSSCI.

Features and Advantages: To meet the needs of scientific, refined and intelligent urban management, we have established a multi-functional + public management laboratory, opened more than 10 experimental courses such as digital urban management and more than 20 off campus practice bases, focused on the training and improvement of students' thinking ability, management skills and practical ability, and established a talent training mode of horizontal transfer and vertical improvement.

The students have learned systematically the advanced skills of Office, GIS, AutoCAD drawing, SPSS, e-government, digital city management and so on, and have been able to meet the needs of senior management talents in the era of “Internet Plus”. The one-time employment rate exceeds 95%, mainly in administrative institutions such as the Organization Department of Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee, the Beijing Office of Henan Provincial Government and large and medium-sized enterprises, such as China Construction Group, China Tobacco Group, Bank of China, etc. The number of graduates who have passed the examinations of postgraduates, civil servants, public institutions and state-owned enterprises within 1-3 years accounts for about 50%. At present, the main directions of postgraduate entrance examination for the students are concentrated in the fields of public management, public policy, land resource management and so on. In recent years, the proportion of students admitted to famous universities is high, mainly concentrated in “Double First-Class” universities such as Jilin University, Chongqing University, Lanzhou University, Northwest University of Agriculture and Forestry Science and Technology, Central China Normal University, Nanjing Agricultural University and China University of Geosciences (Beijing).
