Chinese International Education Major

1. Objectives

The department, adhering to the guidance of Marxism in its education and teaching, aims to cultivate high quality application-oriented talents who should have the following features. Firstly, students should have a correct political direction, a deep concern for country and family, a broad international perspective, and a solid foundation of Chinese language and characters; secondly, students should systematically master the basic knowledge of Chinese language and literature; thirdly, students should be competent in Chinese international education, have the ability to perceive literature, read documents and classics, as well as evaluate aesthetics, and have a good grasp of foreign languages. After graduation, they will give full play to their strengths in the work related to Chinese international education with professional advantages, can further their studiesand will be competent in jobs on administrative bodies and public institutions including culture and education, media organizations and foreign exchanges.

5. Minimum credit requirements for graduation

Students are required to complete 165 credits in the training plan. Among them, 106 credits are required for theoretical courses, 21 credits for elective theoretical courses, 34 credits for practical teaching, and 4 credits for innovative entrepreneurial practice platform.

Brief Introduction of Core Courses

An Introduction to Linguistics

An Introduction to Linguistics is a compulsory course for Chinese International Education majors. The goal of this course is to make students have comparatively systematic mastery of basic linguistic concepts and theories, and lay a necessary language theoretical foundation for the improvement of their language theoretical levels, further learning and in-depth research of other language courses.

Modern Chinese

Modern Chinese is a compulsory course for Chinese International Education majors. The goal of this course is to guide students’ language practice by theories and knowledge of modern Chinese, and convert the knowledge they have learned into skills, so that students can gradually achieve the requirements of accuracy, clarity, refinement and vividness in language use.

Ancient Chinese

Ancient Chinese is a compulsory course for Chinese International Education majors. The goal of the course is to help students better understand and grasp basic theory and knowledge of ancient Chinese, so as to lay a great foundation for their future work related to language characters, language teaching and modern Chinese research.

Comprehensive English

Comprehensive English, a common compulsory course for Chinese International Education majors, covers English language knowledge, application skills, learning strategies and intercultural communication. The goal of the course is to develop students’ English ability with various teaching models and ways to enable them communicate easily in oral and written English.

An Introduction to Chinese Culture

An Introduction to Chinese Culture is a compulsory course for Chinese International Education majors. The aim of the course is to make students gain a systematic understanding of the formation process, characteristics and various components of Chinese culture, be able to have an in-depth understanding and analysis of some important contents, ideas and figures in traditional culture, and be able to apply relevant knowledge and theories to analyze cultural phenomena.

An Introduction to Chinese International Education

An Introduction to Chinese International Education is a compulsory course for Chinese Language International Education majors. The goal of the course is to make students systematically understand and master the basic theoretical knowledge and pedagogy involved in the subject of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and finally lay a good foundation for their future engagement in teaching Chinese as a foreign language and language research.

Method of Teaching of Chinese as a Second Language

Method of Teaching of Chinese as a Second Language is a compulsory course for Chinese International Education majors. It mainly aims at making students design the lesson types scientifically according to the characteristics of the Chinese language and the teaching objects in future teaching practice so as to improve the classroom instructional efficiency of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and the language communicative ability of international students.

An Introduction to Intercultural Communication

An introduction to Intercultural Communication is a compulsory course for Chinese International Education majors. It mainly aims at making students learn about the differences between Chinese and Western cultures and customs, solving their perplexities caused by cultural differences in intercultural communication, and gradually improving their practical capacity for intercultural communication.
