Visa for Studying in China

International students studying in China must possess ordinary passports with either study visa (Category X) or visiting visa (Category F). International students entering China with other types of visas must promptly transfer into study visas.

Residence Permit

International students with study visa (Category X) shall apply for Residence Permit within 30 days after arrival in China. Late applicants will have to shoulder the responsibilities for the delay and overdue fine. The following documents are required for the application of the residence permit:

  • The Health Certificate issued from the Henan International Travel Health Care Center.
  • The Visa and Residence Permit Application Form obtained from FAO of ZZULI.
  • The Admission Notice of ZZULI and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW201or JW202 Form).
  • Valid passport.
  • One passport-size photo (facing the front, without hat, background not to be red).

Students transferred from other university / college in China should also provide the Letter of Transfer issued by the previous university / college.

Students holding F visa do not need to apply for the Residence Permit, but should apply for extension of visa before the expiration of visa validity.

Re-entry Visa

International students holding valid residence permits may go abroad or to regions of Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan, and re-enter China Mainland without re-entry visas.

Students with F visa must first submit their re-entry applications at FAO 10 days before their leaving Chinese mainland. Re-entry visas are to be issued by the Zhengzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau (the Visa Center) with the following documents: the Visa and Residence Permit Application Form obtained from FSAO, valid passport, the Admission Notice of ZZULI, Visa Application for Study in China (JW201 or JW202 Form), one passport-size photo, and the copy of the Registration Form of Temporary Residence issued by the local police station or the international apartment in concern.

Extension of Visa and Residence Permit

International students should pay attention to the validity of their residence permits and entry visas and make proper arrangement for extensions if necessary. The overdue fines caused by expiration of validity of residence permits or entry visas should be born by oneself. The international students expected to continue their study at ZZULIafter the expiration of their residence permits or F visa should apply to FAO for extension of validity of these documents 10 days before the expiration date. (Self-financing students shall pay tuition before confirming the extension of their residence permits or visas. The extension in need should be processed before the end of the semester). Then the students should submit all the required documents, including the Visa and Residence Permit Application Form obtained from FSAO, valid passport, and one passport-size photo, to the Zhengzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau (the Visa Center) for the granting of extension. For extension of F visa, the Admission Notice of ZZULI, the Application Form of Study in China (JW201 or JW202 Form) and the copy of the Registration Form of Temporary Residence issued by the local police station or the international apartment in concern are also required.

Alteration of Visa Category and Content of Residence Permit

International students without study visas or those who re-enter the country without proper re-entry visas during their staying in ZZULIshould apply for study visas at their own expenses.

International students transferred to ZZULIfrom other parts of China should update their information on the residence permits at the Zhengzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau (the Visa Center), providing the Admission Notice of ZZULIand the Transfer Certificate issued by their former school.

Students should report to FAO the change of their personal information, including the residential address, passport number (in case of passport reissuing) within 10 days after the change. They also have to go through the alteration procedures of their personal information recorded on their residence permits at the Zhengzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau (the Visa Center) by providing the Visa and Residence Permit Application Form obtained from FSAO, valid passport, one passport-size photo, and the copy of the Registration Form of Temporary Residence issued by the local police station or the international apartment in concern.

Leaving the Country

The F visa holders who wish to exit and re-entry mainland China during the vacation should apply for re-entry visas before leaving the country. Those who have finished study in China should leave the country before the expiration of the validity of their entry visas or residence permits.

Loss of Passport

International students should immediately report to the local police station the loss of their passports and apply for certificates of passport loss at the Zhengzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau. The reissuing of a new passport is processed at the embassies of their home countries in Zhengzhou. Students can apply for new student visas at FAO after obtaining new passports.

Miscellaneous

No alteration of visas, identity cards and certifications issued by FAO is permitted. Violations will result in punishment and fines.

Accompanying persons of international students are normally not considered by the University. Relatives of international students staying in China for personal reasons can only apply for Tourist visas (Category L).

 

The Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) is willing to help all students who have problems with their passports / visas / residence permits.
