Recently, the Department of Science, Technology and Informatization of the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced the MOE Key Laboratory Construction Project. The MOE Key Laboratory of Cold Chain Food Processing and Safety Control established by ZZULI has been included in the project. It is the first MOE-approved key laboratory and the first MOE high-level scientific research and innovation platform to be constructed by ZZULI.

The MOE Key Laboratory of Cold Chain Food Processing and Safety Control was declared by Prof. Bai Yanhong taking the lead. Depending on Henan Province’s characteristic and core discipline group of Food Science and Engineering and gathering the superiority of relevant disciplines, the laboratory is established based on provincial discipline platforms including Henan Key Laboratory of Cold Chain Food Quality and Safety Control. Rooted in the major strategic needs for national food safety and people’s health and focusing on such fields as cold chain food processing theories and technologies, identification and detection of cold chain food safety hazards, and intelligent cold chain and safety control, the laboratory carries out original research and intensify sci-tech innovation. It is committed to becoming an internationally recognized cold chain food processing and safety research base, providing a powerful guarantee for the development of the food industry in Henan Province, and facilitating ZZULI to build the domestic hub of food sci-tech innovation and the first-class discipline of food science and engineering.

As a significant part of the national sci-tech innovation system, the MOE key laboratories are innovative talent training bases relying on colleges and universities, which play a vital role in talent convergence, sci-tech innovation, talent training, and social services. By fulfilling the requirements for constructing MOE key laboratories, ZZULI will strengthen the institutional innovation, optimize the research team, implement the supporting measures, materialize the laboratory, and build a benchmarking discipline platform that serves national strategies and reflect regional characteristics, aiming to provide intellectual support for the construction of innovation hubs in Henan Province.
