At 10 a.m. on October 13, 2022, the opening ceremony of the first Chinese Culture Corner in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, jointly organized by the University of Duhok and the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Irbil, was held in the University of Duhok. Consul General Ni Ruchi attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Hu Zhiwei, a government-sponsored teacher of ZZULI, performed Taiji Quan and Taiji Sword, played cucurbit flute, sang Chinese songs, and wrote Chinese calligraphy in the ceremony. His brilliant performance drew loud applause from nearly 200 local teachers and students who closely experienced the charm of Chinese culture.

The Chinese Culture Corner provides an opportunity for gaining the knowledge about China and enhancing the mutual understanding between the peoples of China and Kurdistan Region, and lays a solid foundation for the further transmission of Chinese culture in Irap. The first generation of students of the Chinese Department, which Mr. Hu Zhiwei helped to establish and where he teaches, will graduate from Salahaddin University-Erbil next year. The bilateral cultural and educational exchanges are fruitful.
