According to the latest data released by the American Essential Science Indicators (ESI) on May 12th, the Agricultural Science of ZZULI ranks ESI top 1%. Currently ZZULI stands on the fourth position among the universities of Henan Province, with four disciplines listed among the top 1% of ESI. The latest ranking of ZZULI Agricultural Science in ESI indicates that this field of study in ZZULI has reached an advanced level from an international perspective, presenting another milestone for our university in building light industry subjects and establishing high-level disciplines. The data support the efforts made by ZZULI to become a Double First-Class university.
ESI is a globally recognized analytical tool that evaluates disciplines and indicates academic trends. It is also an essential criterion in assessing academic achievements and the influence of universities and academic institutions in different countries and regions. One of the goals for Chinese universities to become Double First-Class universities is to have disciplines that rank ESI top 1% or top 1‰. The ESI ranking reflects the worldwide competitiveness of a field of study and is a critical criterion to estimate whether the universities offer studies qualified at international levels. Generally, disciplines among ESI top 1% are regarded as International High-level Disciplines. The ESI covers 22 areas and is updated every two months (every odd month). Four disciplines in our university have ranked at the top of ESI, namely Engineering Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Agricultural Science. The achievement reflects the recent endeavors of ZZULI’s leaders in developing the fields of studies, showing that our university is on the fast track to establishing advanced high-quality disciplines.
The next plan for ZZULI is to build a high-level university specializing in light industry and establish first-class disciplines. ZZULI will implement projects on developing first-class disciplines, characteristic and core disciplines (discipline clusters), provincial key disciplines, and university-level key disciplines. By optimizing the top-level design, strengthening the foundation and making crucial breakthroughs, we will comprehensively and significantly increase our strength and discipline level.
