Recently, in order to celebrate the International Chinese Language Day on April 20, under the support of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Erbil, Hu Zhiwei, ZZULI’s government-sponsored teacher at Salahuddin University (the University) in Iraqi Kurdistan, held celebrations at the University on April 19 local time. Participants included relevant staff of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Erbil, over 300 local teachers and students, and friends from all walks of life.
A variety of events, including exhibitions of Chinese books, introductions to Chinese cultural characteristics, calligraphy, crash courses of the Chinese language, offering Chinese names to participants, and presenting gifts, were organized. Hu Zhiwei put on performances such as Tai Chi Sword, Cucurbit Flute and Chinese Calligraphy on site, which won widespread acclaim from the audience. Relevant events were covered by the official account of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Erbil. Local TV stations and media has further produced special coverage of International Chinese Language Day events.
As China’s comprehensive national strength continuously enhances, the “Circle of Friends” of the Chinese language keeps expanding. The Chinese language has become a bright business card for traditional Chinese culture to present itself worldwide and a cultural window for understanding China. In recent years, ZZULI actively participated in international cooperation and exchanges, trained more than 200 professionals in International Chinese Language Education, and dispatched about 40 competent Chinese teachers and volunteers to Iraq, the United States, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Mongolia, and other countries. The professionals promote international Chinese language education, making positive contributions to the transmission of Chinese culture and building a community with a shared future for humankind.
