12th Kumho Asiana Cup Korean Speaking Contest Held in ZZULI

On December 9, the 12th Kumho Asian Cup Korean Speech Contest for Chinese Students was held in Zhengzhou University of Light Industry. This contest is hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China-Korea Friendship Association and the Korea-China Friendship Association, and organized by Henan People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and ZZULI.

Zhao Weidong, President of ZZULI, met with leaders and the judges from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Korea-China Friendship Association and the Henan People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. President Zhao Weidong introduced the achievements of Korean teaching in ZZULI, academic and cultural exchanges with Korean universities, and said that ZZULI has strong interest to further deepen the exchanges and cooperation between universities in Korea and ZZULI. The visiting leaders and guests expressed their affirmation and appreciation for the development of ZZULI and the achievements made in the cultural exchange between China and Korea.

Ms. Tang Ruimin, Deputy Inspector of Asia-Africa Department of China Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Mr. Li Yuantai, Vice Chairman of Korea-China Friendship Association and Vice-President of Kumho Asiana Group, Fang Shaoming, Vice-President of ZZULI and Mr. CHUNG JAE NAM, Consul General of Korea Consulate General in Wuhan gave speeches respectively. 25 contestants from more than 200 participants across China entered the finals.

The competition consists of two rounds: speech on a given topic and on a given picture. The given-topic speech requires the contestants to conceive a speech within 3 minutes, while given picture speech requires players to give an impromptu speech within 90 seconds on a picture randomly selected from 30 ones. All players fully demonstrated their understanding of the cultures of China and South Korea, which deeply impressed the audience. After nearly four hours of fierce competition, Huhe Muqier (Shanghai International Studies University) won the first prize, Li Yingxin (Jilin University Zhuhai College) and Wang Xiaoxuan (Shandong University) the second prize, Shen Lan (Sichuan International Studies University), Cai Jiayi (Zhuhai Institute of Jilin University) and Dong Cher (Guangdong University of Foreign Studies) the third prize. They will receive scholarships of 8,000 yuan, 5,000 yuan and 3,000 yuan respectively. In addition, 19 contestants won the Merit Award, whose bonus are a round-trip air ticket to South Korea sponsored by Kumho Asiana Group.

The Kumho Asian Cup has evolved into the largest and the most authoritative Korean contest in China after more than 10 years of development. The competition aims to provide an exchange platform for students of China and South Korea to demonstrate their own cultures.
