Overview

College of Economics and Management of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry has been developed based on training class for tobacco cadres of former Ministry of Light Industry, the tobacco training center, junior college and Management Engineering Department. It is one of the basic teaching units, which was founded earlier and it has been undertaking the important mission of cultivating talents in economics and management for different industries and regional economic development. It started to cultivate full-time junior college students in 1985. It started to cultivate undergraduate students with bachelor degree from 1994.The right of conferring master degree was obtained in 2003. School of Economics and Management was founded in June of 2004 to replace Management Engineering Department.

Basic information: The number of staff in the college amounts to 125 including 112 full-time teachers，18 professors，36 associate professors and 65 teachers with doctor degree. 20 teachers are honored as provincial civilized teacher, outstanding individual of teaching ethics, academic leader, innovation talent of science and technology and young backbone teacher in universities respectively. Now there are 8 basic teaching units in the school: Department of Business Administration, Department of Accounting, Department of Economics, Department of Management Science and Engineering, Department of Marketing, Department of International Economy and Trade, Experimental Center Center of Economics and Management and Education Center of MBA/MPAcc.  In addition, there are four management service units：Administrative Office, Youth League Committee, Office of undergraduate’s Affairs, Office of Postgraduate’s Affairs. The college was honored as annual excellent unit more than once, campus civilized unit, advanced unit of party organization, outstanding unit of ideological and political work, outstanding collective of internet construction, advanced group of united front work, outstanding unit of labor union work, and excellent unit of alumni work.

Academic disciplines and majors: business administration and management science and engineering are the first-class key disciplines in Henan province. Research center of industry and innovation is the key research base of humanity and social science among Henan universities and new type of think tank in Henan universities. For accounting and logistics management our college is the state-level construction unit of first-class undergraduate majors. For majors of accounting, logistics management, business administration, marketing, E-commerce, economics our college is the construction unit of provincial first-class undergraduate majors. Business administration, e-commerce and marketing were recommended to participate in election for construction unit of state-level first-class undergraduate majors. Accounting and marketing are provincial specialty majors and provincial experimental majors with comprehensive reform. Virtual simulation project of integrated financial sharing is regarded as a state-level undergraduate course. Management is the provincial online open course and provincial first-class undergraduate course. Besides, it was recommended to participate in election of state-level undergraduate course. The teaching team of management has obtained the honor of provincial teaching team of ideology and politics. Finance and econometrics are certified as provincial first-class courses. Project management A was honored the provincial excellent online open course. The experimental teaching course group of accounting virtual simulation, the virtual stimulation project intelligent analysis of commercial big data based on financial integration, virtual stimulation project of business income tax planning based on wise tax planning were recommended to participate in election of course group and project of provincial virtual simulation. Marketing and Overview of E-commerce are regarded as provincial excellent courses. E-commerce is also the provincial resource shared excellent course. In the initial comprehensive appraisal of majors in Henan province in 2017, majors of business administration and logistics management were ranked first and the major of marketing was ranked second.

Talent cultivation: There are 3022 students in our college now, of which 2806 were undergraduate students and 216 post graduate students. This college has two academic master’s degree subjects in first-level disciplines-----Business Administration and Management Science and Engineering. It can offer 4 professional master degrees including MBA, MPAcc, project management (Logistics Engineering) and international business. There are 8 undergraduate majors: Business Administration, Accounting, Financial Management, Economics, Marketing, Logistics Management, International Economy and Trade and E-Commerce, all of which enroll students according to the standard of key universities. Meanwhile, there are dual bachelor’s degree programs in Economics and Marketing for all students in our university to apply for.

Science research: In recent years, our teachers have hosted 5 projects supported by the National Natural Science Fund, 16 projects supported by National Social Science Fund and 110 provincial and ministerial projects. At the same time, more than 30 provincial and ministerial prizes of scientific research and teaching research have been obtained. Moreover, more than 200 key papers have been published. The scientific research funds amounted to ￥47.4610 million including ￥6.6664 million longitudinal research funding and 40.7946 horizontal funding. The annual research fund amounts to nearly ￥7.9102 million.

International communication: In recent years, the college has strengthened international exchange and cooperation with many foreign universities including Napier University in UK, Griffith University, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, University of Camerino in Italy, Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland, Inha University in Korea and New Zealand Institute of Commerce. Every year, some excellent teachers are selected to pay visits abroad and some excellent postgraduates and undergraduates are selected to go to the above-mentioned universities to study abroad. There are 48 post graduate students participating the co-cultivation project of our university with University of Wales Trinity Saint David in 2021 and 2022. Twenty undergraduate students obtained the fund from National Committee for Study Abroad Fund and went abroad to study in 2017 and 2018.

Student work: Student work is closely centered on the fundamental task of “cultivating morality and cultivating people”, with “moral education first, standardization and efficiency, paying close attention to study style, serving students, and forming characteristics” as the work ideas and goals. We strive to implement the “student-oriented” work philosophy, take “students’ growth and talent” as the starting point and end point of student work, and strive to create an educative environment that “spring wind turns into rain and moistens things silently”. Our college strictly implements the counselor’s heart-to-heart talk system, special group assistance and important node control measures and adheres to bottom-line thinking to ensure the safety and stability of students.  Tomb-sweeping Day, Learning from Lei Feng activity month, “May 4th” Youth Day, commemorating “12.9” and other commemorative days and major festivals are used as the carrier, based on the power of role models, dialogue with beliefs, coming-of-age ceremonies, moral lectures and other characteristic activities, students’ patriotism education and their ideals and beliefs are greatly strengthened. We actively organize “positive learning style and energy”, campus cultural brand activities such as Study Style Construction Month, Discipline Competition, “Parrot Cup” Debate Competition, Traditional Culture of “Hongwen Shangde Lexue Inspirational”, and Dorm Culture Month, which promote the improvement of students’ comprehensive quality and overall development greatly. Innovation and entrepreneurship courses and employment and entrepreneurship training, joint training of “order classes” with enterprises (Shunfeng Express class, Sinian management trainee class) are organized. Corporate scholarships and employer information database are established. Special supply and demand meetings for economic and management talents are held to create good employment and entrepreneurship. In 2016, 2018 and 2019, our college was rated as an advanced collective for school employment and entrepreneurship and won the outstanding brand of ideological and political work in colleges and universities in Henan Province, one counselor was awarded the title of “Top Ten Outstanding Student Workers” in Henan Province “Damei Engineering”, and one grass-roots league branch was awarded one of the top ten national dynamic league branches.

Party Building Ideological and Political: College currently has 80 faculty party members, accounting for 67% of the faculty and staff and 368 student party members, accounting for 12% of the total number of students. There are 7 teacher’s party branches and 9 student party branches. The teacher party branch is set up according to the department, and the student party branch is set up according to the major. The party committee of the college attaches great importance to the ideological and political work of party building, adheres to the work idea of “focusing on party building around the center, and doing a good job of party building to promote development”, constantly consolidating the achievements of party history learning and education, and comprehensively strengthening the party’s political construction, ideological construction, organizational construction, work style construction, discipline building and system building. The cohesion and combat effectiveness of the party organization has been continuously enhanced. The party branch as a battle fortress and the vanguard and exemplary role of teachers and students and party members has played a significant role. Spiritual civilization creation and teacher morality construction activities are organized constantly to strengthen the ideological and political guidance for teachers and students. We strive to create a good atmosphere of unity, progress and entrepreneurship, and provide a strong political, ideological and organizational guarantee for high-quality development in the aspect of the college’s teaching, scientific research, discipline construction and other undertakings.
