East meets West in IT collaboration
SIX students from Edinburgh Napier have joined forces with visitors from China on an ambitious IT project.
A group of five from Zhengzhou University of Light Industry travelled to the capital in the first stage of what will be a long-running collaboration.
The students have spent the last two weeks getting to know each other and setting up communications channels.
A series of intensive workshops took place in the historic Merchiston Tower, with the students working together for around four hours every day.
They also found time to have some fun in the evenings and at the weekend. A short tour was arranged, taking in Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument and the Kelpies.
On the eve of the visitors’ return to China, the group outlined what had been achieved so far in a presentation to an expert panel of Edinburgh Napier staff.
Over the next three months they will continue to work remotely on building a mobile application to help students organise ad-hoc study groups.
And at the end of the project in May, our students will travel to China to complete the work and to deliver their final project presentation.
The International Group Project is the latest collaboration between Napier and ZZULI, and establishes a new model for student collaboration that we hope to build on in the future.
It is also the first collaborative project centred on a joint laboratory that ZZULI have created in their International Education College which is set to be used to support other types of activity including teaching and research.
