Established in 1985, College of Art and Design has a relatively long history and academic accumulation. It has a solid foundation for undergraduate education, postgraduate education progressing fast. Disciplinary construction has achieved remarkable effects, and so it enjoys a high reputation in Henan Province, even in the whole nation. There are 12 undergraduate majors, including industrial design, product design, attires and costumes design, attires and costumes design (fashion design and management), Clothing Design and Engineering, visual communication design, Environmental design, cartoon, digitalmedia art, drawing, sculpture, industrial arts (Ceramic art orientation). Of the 12 majors, industrial design is the construction spot of characteristic specialty at national level and Art Design and cartoon at Provincial level. School of Art and Design has the right to grant master degree in first-grade discipline of design science, and the right to grant professional master’s degree, namely master of arts and Master of Engineering (Industrial Design Engineering). First-grade discipline of design science is a Key Discipline of Henan Province.

The teachers in College of Art and Design are very qualified and capable persons. Teachers with high professional titles amount up to more than 40 (including professors and associate professors). Quite a few of the teachers ever earned the titles of national outstanding teachers, Henan Famous Teachers, Henan outstanding teachers, and Academic Technological elites. Those with master’s degree and doctor's degree accounts for more than 80%. The courses of Interior Design and Introduction to Design have been province level excellent courses. Art Design Experiment Teaching Center is awarded to be the model of Experiment Teaching Center and open laboratory of Henan Key Discipline. We have a complete system of educational laboratories, including computer laboratory, photo studio, CNC machining center, Rapid prototyping lab, The film and television media forum, Recording Studio, Stop-Motion Animation Lab, Laboratory of Design Psychology and Behavior Analysis,  human engineering laboratory, Packaging Technology Laboratory, screen printing laboratory, Laboratory of Garment Manufacturing Processes, Digital printing laboratory, Laboratory of Clothing assembly line work of ,ceramic art laboratory, Metal technology laboratory, The model studio ( of greasy filth, woodworking, plastics), sculpture room, etc. ZZULI Intangible cultural heritage research center is a scientific research institution at school level, which was successively approved to be Academic Research Base for China Society for the Study of Folk Literature and Art and The Research Center of Henan Intangible Cultural Heritage. Because of the above mentioned advantages, School of Art and Design was appointed as Development research base of Henan Cultural Industry by Henan Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department. We are also the premise of Henan Industrial Designers’ Society, having Folk art museum, Art design and research institute, and more than 20 workshops for professors and doctors. Since the foundation of the university, as the main artistic talents training base of Henan Province, school of art and design has turned out a great number of talented art designers and artistic creator.

In recent years, under the guidance of professional teachers, students won more than 100 awards in domestic and international design contest. For example, in the IF international industrial design competition in Germany (2012), which are regarded as “Oscar” in design field, Yu Honghai won the fourth prize of Global concept design for his design works, which was the best result of Chinese student in this contest. Up to now, there are six students who have won the awards of IF Global concept design. In China auto design competition (2012, 2014), Fang Siyuan, Xue Yahong respectively won “Gold award for Best life fashion design” and “Gold award for Best Innovation Concept”, both of which are one of the nine major Individual Awards. In all previous sessions of Advertising Art Competition of The national college students, students of our school won two first awards and three Second Awards.
