The College of Energy and Power Engineering was established in August 2014 by the Department of Energy and Power Engineering, formerly part of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and the Department of Process Equipment and Control Engineering, formerly part of the College of Material and Chemical Engineering. The College has three basic teaching units, the Department of Energy and Power Engineering, the Department of Process equipment and Control Engineering and the Department of Energy and Power Engineering Experiment Center. The department of Process equipment and Control Engineering and the Department of Energy and Power Engineering are provincial excellent basic teaching organizations, and the experimental center of Energy and Power Engineering is the demonstration center of experimental teaching in Henan Province.

The college has 58 staff members, including 45 full-time teachers, 5 professors, 13 associate professors, and 37 doctoral teachers. The college has 1 leading talent in science and technology innovation in Central China, 1 outstanding youth in science and technology innovation in Henan Province, 2 academic technology leaders in Henan Provincial Department of Education, 2 scientific and technological innovation talents in colleges and universities in Henan Province, 1 young scientist project in Henan Province and 4 young backbone teachers in Henan Province.

The college's Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics discipline is the first-level key disciplines in Henan Province. It has two master's degrees in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics and Power Engineering. The college offers two national first-class undergraduate programs, Energy and Power Engineering and Process Equipment and Control Engineering. It has a team of high-level teachers including national model teachers, excellent teachers of Henan Province, provincial famous teachers, school-level famous teachers and provincial teaching teams, and has built high-quality teaching resources such as 1 national first-class course and 5 provincial first-class courses. The teachers of the college have been awarded more than 20 times by national and provincial teaching competitions.

The college actively serves national, local, industry and enterprise needs, focusing on refrigeration and heat pump energy-saving technology, energy conservation and emission reduction, new energy utilization, advanced manufacturing and control of process industrial equipment and other fields. There are 1 Engineering Technology Research Center of Henan Province, 1 International Joint laboratory of Henan Province and 2 key laboratories of Zhengzhou City, 1 innovative science and technology team in Henan Province, 1 university science and technology innovation team in Henan Province, and 2 science and technology innovation teams in Zhengzhou City. In recent years, the faculty and staff of the college have presided over 22 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, undertaken more than 50 provincial scientific research projects, and more than 100 horizontal projects, with more than 80 million yuan in funds. Won 16 provincial science and technology progress awards, published more than 100 academic SCI/EI papers in the past 5 years, published 14 academic works, and authorized 124 patents.
