The College of Computer Science and Technology originated from the Computer Teaching and Research Office of the Department of Control Engineering established in 1984. It began to enroll students specializing in Computer Applications in 1985 and undergraduate students specializing in Computer Applications in 1994. In 1996, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was separated and established from the Department of Control Engineering, and was renamed as the Department of Computer and Communication Engineering in 2002. In 2003, the Department of Computer and Communication Engineering was abolished to form the College of Computer Science and Technology. In 2014, with the reform of universities’ engineering framework, the School of Electronic and Information Engineering was established, which was co-located with the School of Computer and Communication Engineering. In 2023, the School of Computer and Communication Engineering was changed to the College of Computer Science and Technology. Over the past 30 years, the college has timely updated the teaching content, adjusted the curriculum, revised the training program, and innovated the mode of education based on the national strategic needs and the international academic frontiers, so as to cultivate computer professionals with high quality, hard skills and strong innovation.

The college has the authority to grant Academic Master's degrees in two first-level disciplines, Computer Science and Technology and Information and Communication Engineering, and the authority to grant Specialized Master's degrees in Electronic Information. It also has two provincial-level key disciplines, Information and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Technology. There are five undergraduate majors of Computer Science and Technology, Cyberspace Security, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Internet of Things Engineering. Among them, Computer Science and Technology has been approved as a first-class undergraduate major under the national Double 10,000-plan, and Internet of Things Engineering has been approved as a first-class undergraduate major in the Henan province. The majors of Computer Science and Technology and Internet of Things Engineering have passed the certification of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association (CEEAA). Computer Science and Technology is a pilot major of the national excellent engineer training program, and Network Engineering is the reform pilot program of the talent cultivation mode of the undergraduate engineering education in Henan Province. Data Structure has been approved as a national first-class course, and more than ten courses such as “C Language Programming” and “Introduction to Computer Science” have approved as the provincial-level first-class courses or high-quality online courses. Currently, the college has 124 faculty members, including 46 professors and associate professors, 62 teachers with doctoral degrees, and many high-level talents such as double employed academicians, national excellent teachers, Famous Teachers of Central Plains, and famous teachers of Henan Province. The college has Henan Key Laboratory of Food Safety and Data Intelligence, Henan Network Engineering and Data Intelligence Pilot Base, Henan Engineering Laboratory of Emergency Platform Information Technology, Henan International Joint Laboratory of Big Data Analysis Technology, Data analysis and application technology of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry Henan Engineering Laboratory, provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center of computer experimental teaching, provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center of Internet of Things experimental teaching, Henan computer science virtual simulation experimental teaching enter, Henan off-campus practical education base for undergraduate students，which have established stable on-campus and off-campus practical bases, providing students with a good practical teaching environment.

The college has established long-term and friendly cooperative relationships with well-known enterprises such as Shu Guang Information Industry Co., LTD., ZTE Corporation Co., LTD., Dahua Technology Co., LTD., Hikvision Digital Technology Co., LTD., and Shangu Cyber Security Technology Co., LTD..

The college adheres to the main line of improving the quality of talent cultivation, and actively promotes the cultivation of students' innovation and entrepreneurship abilities, forming the talent cultivation characteristic of strong foundation, wide caliber, emphasis on practice, and pursuit of innovation. In recent years, students have won more than 800 awards at the national and provincial levels in various discipline competitions such as Challenge Cup, Internet+, Computer Design Competition, and ACM Competition.

At the same time, the college has paid long attention to the construction of study style, and has attached great importance to the postgraduate entrance examination and employment work. In the past three years, the employment rate of graduates has been stable at around 90%, and the graduated students are spreading all over the country, which is highly praised by the employers.
