Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the list of 2025 Metaverse Typical Cases (GXTLKH [2026] No. 164). The case titled "AI Model-Driven Digital Twin Management and Control System for Manufacturing Equipment," recommended by Zhengzhou University of Light Industry (ZZULI), was shortlisted. ZZULI is the only university in Henan Province selected for the "Typical Product Case" category.
By constructing an innovative "digital twin+AI model" framework, the system provides replicable technical pathways and solutions for the large-scale application of the Industrial Metaverse. To address challenges in traditional mechanical equipment operations, including inadequate dynamic response, limited autonomous learning capability and the lack of closed-loop production data, the research team developed a new-generation AI model-driven digital twin management and control system for manufacturing equipment. It enables intelligent scheduling and autonomous operation of manufacturing systems, and provides technical support for intelligent perception, virtual-real fusion, autonomous learning and closed-loop feedback during equipment operation, proving significant theoretical and practical value.
The industrial digital twin research team of ZZULI is among the earliest in China engaged in digital twin theory and technology research. As a founding organizer of the Academic Conference on Digital Twin and Intelligent Manufacturing Services and a founding member of the Digital Twin Professional Committee of the Chinese Graphics Society, the team established the Henan Engineering Research Center for Digital Twin of Complex Mechanical Systems. The team has developed the AI model-driven digital twin management and control system for manufacturing equipment and conducted practical applications in enterprises. Its digital twin research won the Second Prize of the 2023 National Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of the 2023 Henan Technological Invention Award, and the First Prize of the 2022 Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award. Team members have received numerous honors including national talent titles, Henan Province Outstanding Youth Science Fund Program, the Young Top-notch Talents of Central Plains Talent Program, and the Henan University Science and Technology Innovation Talent Program. Additionally, the team was named an advanced unit for Digital Twin Standardization Work by the Subcommittee on Internet of Thingsof National Technical Committee on Information Technology of Standardization Administration of China in 2024. The topic "Human–Machine Collaboration and System Optimization of Industrial Digital Twin Systems" was selected as one of the Top Ten Challenging and Frontier Issues in China's Graphics Discipline in 2025.
