Delegation from South Africa's Department of Higher Education and Training Visits ZZULI

On August 3, a nine-member delegation, which consisted of Samuel Zamokuhle Zungu, Deputy Director-General of South Africa's Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Nephtal Sabela Buthelezi, Executive Director of DHET, and Prof. Fumene Tsibani from the University of Johannesburg, paid a goodwill visit to ZZULI. Huang Rongjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of ZZULI, cordially met with the guests at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Companions also included Ms. Zhang Xiaomei, an outstanding alumnus of ZZULI who works in South Africa, and Mr. Chen Yunhe, Secretary-General of the BRICS Trade Promotion Education Technology Association (Chinese side). Zhang Cheng and Wang Jiwei, Vice President of ZZULI, as well as responsible persons from the International Cooperation and Exchange Department and relevant secondary colleges attended the event.

Huang Rongjie extended a warm welcome to the delegation's visit on behalf of ZZULI. He briefly introduced ZZULI's development in discipline construction, talent cultivation, international cooperation and exchanges, and other aspects in recent years. He also reviewed the history of education and cooperation between ZZULI and South African universities. Furthermore, he highlighted ZZULI's proactive response to the Plan for China-Africa Cooperation on Talent Development put forth by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the China-Africa Leaders' Dialogue held in Johannesburg, and its success in becoming a Chinese member university of the China-Africa University Alliance (CAUA) exchange mechanism. He warmly encouraged teachers and students from South African universities to exchange and learn at ZZULI. The scientific research of ZZULI in disciplines including food science, material and chemical engineering, and energy technology is highly consistent with the key areas for South Africa's economic development. He looked forward to enhancing cooperation with South African universities in the future to advance higher education.

Deputy Director-General Zungu expressed his appreciation for ZZULI's warm reception. He stated that he would do his utmost to promote and assist in the cooperation between South African universities and ZZULI as far as the policies of both sides permit. Building on the past achievements, both sides should establish an in-depth exchange and cooperation mechanism and unremittingly expand the depth and breadth of cooperation. Prof. Tsibani briefed on the recent development of the University of Johannesburg, showcasing his willingness to cooperate in teacher and student exchange programs, scientific research cooperation, doctoral training, and other aspects. After the meeting, ZZULI signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Johannesburg.

During the visit, the delegation also visited the Science and Technology Exhibition Hall at the library, College of Energy and Power Engineering, College of Material and Chemical Engineering, College of Food and Bioengineering, and College of Tobacco Science and Engineering. Through extensive discussions with relevant responsible persons, the delegation presented ideas and suggestions for exchanges and cooperation and reached initial agreements for cooperation with them.
