Recently, the national finals of the 17th National College Student Chemical Engineering Design Competition, known as the TITAN DESIGN Cup, concluded successfully. Since its launch in February, the competition has attracted 3,391 teams from 432 colleges and universities across China, including prestigious institutions like Zhejiang University, Tianjin University, and East China University of Science and Technology. Nearly 17,000 students participated in the competition. Seven teams from ZZULI's School of Materials and Chemical Engineering secured a total of seven awards, including one national second prize, five national third prizes, and one second prize in the Central China region, marking our university's best performance to date.

The theme of this year's competition was Designing a branch plant for clean production of adiponitrile for a large chemical enterprise. This theme aligns with the requirements of China's green and low-carbon development. It includes more than 20 sub-projects such as project feasibility study, process design, piping design, automatic control system design, equipment selection, typical equipment design, workshop equipment layout design, overall device layout design, plant layout planning, economic estimation, and safety and environmental evaluation. With the careful guidance of Ms. Cai Lifang and Ms. Han Jingli, and through the dedicated efforts of the students, starting from the issuance of the project plan in February, and until the competition in August, the seven participating teams successfully completed the design work for the adiponitrile project, achieving excellent results.

The National College Student Chemical Engineering Design Competition is the highest-level and most influential competition for chemical engineering majors in domestic colleges and universities. Its aim is to guide higher education institutions to focus on cultivating college students' innovative design consciousness, comprehensive design ability, engineering practice ability, and teamwork spirit in teaching. The competition enhances the engineering design and practical skills of our students, and fosters their innovative thinking, engineering skills, and teamwork spirit. It also stimulates the enthusiasm and initiative of the teachers' team to learn from and exchange with top-tier colleges and universities, in order to adapt to the requirements of the industry and the economic development of new technology. Additionally, it solidifies the foundation for cultivating innovative talents in chemical engineering majors, which is also vital for the implementation of the Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Program for chemical engineering majors at our university.
