The Celebration of the National Science and Technology Workers’ Day and the Ceremony of the Third National Award for Excellence in Innovation were held in Beijing on May 30. President Wei Shizhong was honored with the National Award for Excellence in Innovation. As a reward for sci-tech talents, the award is second only to the National Science and Technology Award and is designed to commend the outstanding sci-tech workers and teams who have made remarkable contributions in the “pursuit of excellence for innovation”.

Prof. Wei Shizhong has long been engaged in the research of materials processing and forming technology, sparing no effort to tackle the core technical problems of engineering applications in China, and has successively made original achievements in the fields of high-performance wear-resistant alloy, large casting and forging production technology, and ceramic-reinforced tungsten (molybdenum) alloy. He has won two second prizes of the National Science and Technology Award, five first prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Innovation Award, the China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation Award, and the Outstanding Contribution Award of Henan Province.
