On April 6th, the final of the 2023 “Challenge Cup” extracurricular academic and technological works competition for college students was held at the Science Campus of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry (ZZULI). 100 extracurricular academic science and technology works that stood out from the preliminary competition of each school participated in the final competition through a combination of roadshows and on-site reviews. Yang Xinyu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, Zhou Liming, Vice President of the University, and heads of relevant functional departments visited the exhibition area to offer guidance and watch the roadshows.

After the evaluation experts held a working session for the school competition, the works were exhibited at the north square of the library. The evaluation experts conducted on-site questioning regarding the projects, while the participants actively communicated with the teachers and students present. In the on-site evaluation stage, the final of the school competition prepared sub-venues for works genres: Class A scientific invention production, Class B scientific invention production, academic papers in natural sciences, and social survey reports in philosophy and social sciences. Each participating team presented their project background, working principles, creative features, application, and promotional prospects in all aspects through product displays, video animations, PowerPoint slide presentations, and other methods. The experts asked questions regarding innovation, feasibility and practical significance, gave feedback on the setbacks of the projects, and pointed out the directions for improvement for each team. After the competition, ZZULI invited Professor Pei Dongjie from Zhengzhou University, a judge of the competition and a senior guidance expert for the “Challenge Cup” competition, to conduct training on how to apply online for the provincial-level competition and provide detailed guidance on project presentation and refinement.

For a long time, ZZULI has been continuously building the capacity of educating students through academic competitions such as the “Challenge Cup”, gathering the positive energy of scientific and technological innovations created by students, inspiring new momentum in professional learning and practice of students, and writing a new chapter of ZZULI students in the process of China’s path to modernization.
