The College of Software Engineering at Zhengzhou University of Light Industry was established in 2003 with approval from the Government of Henan Province. It is the member of the National Demonstrative Software Engineering College Alliance. In 2020, Zhengzhou University of Light Industry founded the Kunpeng Industry College, leveraging the resources of the College of Software Engineering, in the same year, Kunpeng Industry College was approved as Henan Province Distinctive Demonstrative Software College. In 2022, it was recognized as a provincially supported Industrial Software College. The college currently consists of four departments—Software Technology, Computer Application Technology, Network and Information Security, and Digital Media Technology—along with a laboratory and practical teaching center.
The College of Software Engineering has achieved outstanding results in program development. It currently offers six undergraduate programs: Software Engineering, Digital Media Technology, Intelligent Science and Technology, Software Engineering (Industrial Software), Software Engineering (Industry Application Software), and Software Engineering (New Platform Software). Among these, Software Engineering is a first batch national-level First-Class Undergraduate Program, accredited by the China Engineering Education Certification and is also a pilot program for the Ministry of Education's Excellence Engineer Education and Training Program. Three courses have been awarded as national first-class undergraduate courses.
The College of Software Engineering has made significant progress in discipline development. It has a master's degree authorization in the first-level discipline of Software Engineering and in the discipline of Electronic Information. Software Engineering Subject is a key discipline in Henan Province. The college is home to four provincial-level academic platforms: the Henan Province Food Safety Data Intelligence Key Laboratory, Henan Province Public Safety Data Integration and Intelligent Service Engineering Research Center, Henan Province Computer Animation Implementation Technology International Joint Laboratory, and Henan Province Image Processing and Intelligent Application Engineering Technology Research Center.
The College of Software Engineering attaches great importance to scientific research, and encourages both teachers and students to use their professional expertise and research platforms to engage in scientific research and enhance innovation capabilities. In recent years, the college has led 11 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, 53 provincial and ministerial projects, and won 7 provincial science and technology progress awards, including 1 first prize and 3 second prizes. More than 300 scientific papers have been published, of which more than 200 have been included in SCI and EI databases. The college has been granted more than 200 patents for inventions and software copyrights, and has published more than 30 textbooks and monographs, including 10 textbooks planned at the national and provincial levels.
Adhering to the principle of simultaneous emphasis on talent introduction and cultivation, the College of Software Engineering continues to strengthen faculty development. The faculty team is characterised by high education, high quality, strong ability and youthfulness. At present, the College has 71 faculty members, including 6 professors, 22 associate professors and 45 Ph.D. holders. The faculty also includes a Double Appointment Academician, a leading figure in the national radio and television and network audio-visual industry, a senior EU Marie Curie Scholar, a provincial specially appointed professor, and nearly 30 outstanding provincial-level teachers, master teachers, outstanding talents in technological innovation, academic and technical leaders, and young key teachers.
