Mathematics and Information Science Institute  

The predecessor of Mathematics and Information Science Institute is Mathematics Teaching & Research section established in 1978. Itsuccessively belonged to Department of Basic and Applied Mathematics and Physics of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry before getting independence as Mathematics and Information Sciences In June 2002, and renamed Mathematics and Information Science Institute in July 2013. It consists of department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, department of Information and Computer Science, Mathematics Teaching Department one, Mathematics Teaching Department two and Mathematics Experiment Center. The Mathematics Experiment Center has four laboratories.

The teachers in the specialty are very qualified and the structure is reasonable, there are staff more than 60 people and professors and associate professors account for 50% of the staff. Master degree or above over 75%, more than 20 of them have the Doctor's degree. Eight of them obtain the above province level honorary title. There are 3 middle-aged backbone teachers belonging to above bureaus.

The institute sets a Master Degree Program (It consists of three majors, Mathematical Problem in Information Science, Complex Systems Modeling and Simulation and Cryptography Theory and Techniques). There are two undergraduate majors, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Information and Computing Science. Mathematics and Applied Mathematics includes Applied Statistics and Financial Mathematics. Information and Computing Science includes Application Software and Computational Mathematics. It has a total enrollment of 500 full time undergraduate students and postgraduate. Applied Mathematics is school-level key disciplines. It has 5 stable subjects.

In recent years, the institute has made outstanding achievements in teaching and scientific research. It has undertaken 4 projects from State Natural Sciences Foundation, more than 20 provincial and ministerial projects, more than 40 above bureau level projects. It has completed and passed more than 30 above bureau level scientific research identification. It has published more than 1500 papers, hundreds of them were included in SCIEIISTP etc., and had won the highest cited award of Top 10 from the year 2005 to 2010 from internationally renowned SCI periodical J.Math.Anal.Appl. It had published more than 10 monographs and textbooks. At present, the institute has two province-level top quality courses, one province-level top quality resource sharing course, 6 school -level top quality bilingual courses, which had won many awards of Provincial Teaching Achievement Prize, Education and Teaching Reward.

The institute pays high attention to talent development efforts, carries out deep educational and teaching reform, focus on nurturing talents for mathematics with good ideology and morality, solid specialty foundation, prominent practical ability and spirit of innovation. In College Students' Innovation Practice Activity and Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, they had achieved excellent results. The graduates had won high praise from the employers with their solid professional knowledge, outstanding work ability and good ideological and moral cultivation.

Looking to the future, we take a heavy burden and embark on a long road. The institute will continue to adhere to the college motto Do is easy, Don’t is difficult, further promote the institute spirit “rigorous and pragmatic, forge ahead”, work hard and innovation, strive for greater achievements in the aspect of talent training and scientific research etc., make greater contribution to economic and social development.  

  

Information and Computing Science

Training Objectives and Job Prospects:

This major cultivates the applied talents with good foundation of mathematics and mathematical thinking skills, mastering the basic theory of information and computing science, methods and skills, accepting the elementary training of scientific research, solving practical problems in information technology and sciences engineering calculation, having preliminary ability of information processing and software design and development. The graduates can be engaged in those jobs of research, information processing, software development and management in departments such as science, information industry, economics and finance, government organizations and institutions etc.

Professional Features:

In order to adapt to requirement of information-based society, based on the guiding ideology “enhance the foundation, widen the caliber, pay attention to practice”, the major emphasizes the reasonable structure of knowledge system, curriculum system and practice system, focus on building students’ capacity in solving practical problem such as scientific calculation, software design and development, information processing and coding etc. and innovation and entrepreneurship ability. The major is school-level featured program construction in the year 2009. Teachers with doctor's degree account for 80%, The teachers in the specialty are very qualified and the graduates have high comprehensive qualitythe rates of postgraduate and employment are very high.

Mathematics and Applied Mathematics

Training Objectives and Job Prospects:

The professional cultivates the applied talentswho can master the basic theories and methods of mathematical sciences, have a good statistics and economics literacy, proficient computer skills, solve practical problems using mathematical and statistical knowledge under the preliminary training by the scientific research and applied research. Graduates can continue to further study, also go to the enterprises and institutions, government departments to work on scientific computing, statistical analysis and decision management, or financial organizations such as banks, securities companies engaged in financial data mining, analysis, or management.

Professional Features:
 This professional stresses the basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics, attaches great importance to the computer science, economics and other multi-disciplinary knowledge’s teaching, makes full use of existing four laboratories, six practice bases, cultivates the students’ application and practice abilities by the school studying and social practices. The teachers in the specialty are very qualified and the graduates have high comprehensive quality
the rates of postgraduate and employment are very high.
